SHAMPOO BIOGRAPHY

Shampoo is a duo of teens Jacqui Blake and Carrie Askew, of Plumstead England. Shampoo could best be described as The Spice Girls before there were Spice Girls. Imagine a cross between Kylie Minogue and The Sex Pistols! They first released a number of independent singles which were soon collected on one disc (on their own Food Records label) which just as quickly was picked up by IRS Records. Their first indy single, "Blisters & Bruises" was impressive enough to garner a Melody Maker Single Of The Week Award. But they soon wore out that welcome with the critics, who were turned off by the gimmicky fashion, attitude and sass of the duo. They were quickly perceived as nothing more than a clever one-shot joke with primitive punk stylings and more than a bit of fun.

Their full-length debut We Are Shampoo, which collected most of their British singles, including their anthem, "Trouble," (featured in the soundtrack of The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers) was thier sole I.R.S. release. A second independent LP, Girl Power followed in 1996. The title of which became the rally cry of the aforementioned Spice Girls. The duo continues to record off and on and you can see the latest goings-on of the girls at their official website via the links below...
